When we want to buy something, we go to a shop. Everyday shopping is rather traditional: some white and brown bread, milk, butter, sugar, salt, eggs, sausages. But it’s not necessary to visit different provisional shops such as bakery or butchery to buy food for the family because we could buy foodstuffs in a supermarket. Different goods are sold under one roof, so customers can save their time having all goods bought in no time.

It is necessary to make a shopping list of what we need. We should calculate how much our purchases would cost . We shouldn’t be hungry while shopping. We shouldn’t go shopping immediately after we have got our salary.

And on my way from college I drop into the nearest supermarket, and buy bread and other everyday essentials. Every Friday evening I examine the kitchen more carefully as Saturday is my shopping day.

Sometimes I have to go to a department store. I can buy there fabrics and footwear, glass, ready-made clothes and cosmetics, toys and electric appliances, furniture and sport goods, cameras and films.

Our shops are becoming more and more European-like. Their halls, adverts attract more customers. Shopping gets some element of fun and entertainment.

The method of shopping is very simple. In a self-service shop a customer goes from counter to counter selecting and putting into a basket the goods he wants to buy. It’s absolutely necessary to check the dates before which this or that foodstuff should be used, not to buy something of bad quality. Then a customer takes the basket to the check-out counter where the prices of the purchases are added up. After paying money to the cashier the customer can get his purchases.

Shopping
I go shopping several times per
week. Nowadays there are so
many types of shops - the
shopping center, the hypermarket,
the supermarket, the bakery,
butchery and grocery.

I adore shopping centers. I usually do the shopping
with my mother or with my friends. We go to the
shopping centers where we can spend hours in
different shops. You can buy any type of clothes
there: from underwear to shoes and coat.

The supermarkets and hypermarkets are
very convenient as you can buy whatever
you need at once. There is no more need to
go to three different shops to buy bread,
meat and vegetables. There’s everything
here.

But still there are those who prefer buying
some goods at the specialized places. For
example, they buy fresh bread at the bakery
across the street, and then go to the butcher’s to
buy some fresh meat, and then spend 20
minutes to get to the grocery to buy fresh fruits
and vegetables.

Modern technologies allow doing the shopping
without need not only to get out of the house, but
even get out of bed. It concerns not only the
clothing, but also the food. The delivery service is a
part of almost all modern shops and that is
extremely convenient.

Shops When we want to buy something, we go to a shop. There are many kinds of shops in every town or city .

D epartment store Department store is a large shop with many departments for different kinds of goods. A department store, for example, is composed of departments: clothes, shoes, sports goods, toys, china and glass, electric appliances, cosmetics, cameras, records, etc. You can buy everything you like there. The Macy"s department store in New York City Le Bon Marché department store in Paris, 1867 Big Bazaar at Ahmedabad, India. Kendals department store in Manchester, England.

The most famous department store in Russia are GUM and TsUM in Moscow. Other popular stores are Mega (shopping malls), Stockmann, and Marks & Spencer and others. D epartment store

1893 GUM (meaning "main department store") is a large store in Kitai-gorod of Moscow, facing Red Square. It is actually a shopping mall. Prior to the 1920s the place was known as the Upper Trading Rows (Russian: Верхние торговые ряды). The most famous department store in Russia is GUM in Moscow, followed by TsUM and the Petrovsky Passage. Other popular stores are Mega (shopping malls), Stockmann, and Marks & Spencer. Supermarket – self-service shop In a supermarket we can also buy many different things at once: sausages, fish, sugar, macaroni, flour, tea. In a supermarket the buyer goes with a basket and puts into a basket that he wants to buy. The concept of a self-service grocery store was developed by American entrepreneur Clarence Saunders. His first store opened in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1916.

Men"s and women"s clothing stores In the women"s clothing department you can find dresses, costumes, blouses, skirts, coats, beautiful underwear and many other things. In the men"s clothing department you can choose shirts, trousers, overcoats, etc. Also it is possible to buy sweaters, cardigans, woolen jackets.

Butchers At the butcher"s there is a wide choice of meat and poultry.

Baker At the bakery you buy brown and white bread, rolls, biscuits.

Another shop we go to is the greengrocery which is stocked by cabbage, potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, green peas and apples, oranges. Greengrocer

Dairy shop If you call round at a dairy shop you can buy milk, cream, cheese, butter and many other products.

Bookshop (Bookstore) If we need to buy the book we go to a bookshop

Pharmacy Medicines are on sale in a pharmacy
